Get your resume ready for your next great gig!

Are you ready to land your next great gig? What does it take?

Do you want to land your next great gig? It starts with a great resume. Resume format and content have changed over the years. For example, your home address is no longer needed on your resume. In a time of electronic applications, email addresses and LinkedIn, it is not necessary for a resume to include your home address.

A great resume starts with a great aesthetic. Your resume should look neat. It should not be too busy. It should include consistent formatting and should begin with your name, telephone number, email address and the link to your LinkedIn profile.

Next, your resume should include only your previous ten years of current and prior employment. It is not necessary to tell your work-life story. Include the most relevant information that is geared towards the job you seek. Highlight your experience and progression from your current and previous jobs.

Following your employment history, it is important to include your education, if your education is applicable to your future career goals. It is always a good thing to include education but it is not always necessary or applicable. For example, if you love working outdoors and all you want to do is work as a landscaper, it may not be applicable to include information about your history degree.

Finally, wrap up your resume with any special skills, software, volunteer work, applicable training and accolades. None of these things are necessary but any or all can help catch the eye of a recruiter.

Don’t over complicate your resume. Keep information clear and concise. You will have time to elaborate when you interview.
